A store window for Brand Jordan for the NBA Playoffs 2014. The concept was based on the idea of a phoenix.
In Greek mythology, a phoenix is a long-lived bird that is cyclically regenerated or reborn. Associated with the sun, a phoenix obtains new life by arising from the ashes of its predecessor.
In the playoffs the regular season is over. The records of the teams battling head to head have been burned to the ground. Two opponents start anew and battle to the end, with a lone victor emerging.
The window design uses Japanese charred wood to form openings framing the Jordan shoes floating above a Ionic column using lighting to emphasize the rebirth of the teams (and shoes) in the playoffs.
A quick visual tour of the ideas behind the window.
Phoenix rising from the ashes --> charred cedar commonly used in Japanese construction --> charred wood resembles dappled light of barns and could be done with small LEDs --> phoenix comes from mythology; the shoe is the hero, let's place it on an ionic column and add LED light rings to show it off
